A ride along with The Way Elsewhere

A ride along with The Way Elsewhere

I can’t say for sure whether we do better work when a story feels close to home. I’m not the one to judge that. What I do know is that those are the projects that just stick with you.

A couple of months ago, I joined the team behind The Way Elsewhere to run the film’s socials. By then, the film had already travelled to TiDF28 and CPH:DOX. Now it was time to bring it home, to the city it was made about, for its Athens premiere at Danaos Cinema.

What followed were a few busy, beautiful weeks. Posts to write, paid campaigns to plan and run, a few candid reels shot with the director and the protagonists. Live coverage of a packed premiere night, and an afterparty that turned into its own little legend.

I got to work with such creative, kind and sensitive individuals, and along the way, people I barely knew became a team. The film’s protagonists are real people who shared their lives, their stories and their time with a camera, and then with everyone else. That kind of openness is beautiful. You still think about content, because that’s the job, but the real challenge is doing those people justice.

Next to the film itself, my part was small. Still, I couldn’t be happier or prouder to have been there and to have helped tell its story.

The film, a hybrid documentary following the lives of three taxi drivers (Konstantinos “Puma,” Sunny and Giorgos), focuses on an Athens we all carry somewhere inside. Warm, chaotic, tender, a little worn out and still standing. The one we rarely have time to notice between deadlines, errands and traffic. Watching it feels like being introduced to your own city again, and maybe to the people you pass every day without a second thought.

Thank you to director Eirini Vourloumis and Long Run Productions for the trust, and for letting me be part of the ride.

Go see the film while it’s on the big screen. Then follow us on our socials, because just like us, the story keeps going.
